Overview of the role

As a DevOps engineer, you’ll work across diverse teams and departments to create and implement software systems. As an experienced IT professional with a mixture of coding and infrastructure background, you’ll spend your time collaborating with software developers, quality assurance professionals, and IT staff to manage code releases and maintain a healthy infrastructure ecosystem.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Undertaking skilled platform build/support activities, such as developing hardened base containers, deploying platform services through a CI pipeline making use of infrastructure as code

• Supporting the team to implement best practice and platform improvements

• Supporting engineers in service topology discovery; helping to define QA and deployment pipelines

• Driving adoption of new tools and enabling teams to improve their integration approaches.

• Developing new or improved support processes for users to provide efficiency and consistency at scale

• Supporting teams to make best use of shared platform tooling

• Inform designs and testing of infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines

• Implementing monitoring solutions and defining best practices for use of monitoring tools

• Building and installing of new platform tooling solutions such as monitoring, secret management, and service discovery solutions

• Monitoring of emerging technologies and assessing opportunities to enhance existing infrastructure

About you

You’ll have a demonstrable passion for DevOps/Platform engineering with the following experience:

• Hands on experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions, a range of different AWS (Amazon Web Services) services (ECS, EC2, Lambda, S3, etc.), Virtual Private Cloud, Docker, Terraform, Vault and modern monitoring tooling systems

• An understanding of Cloudflare ecosystems including CDN, Cache, Page rules, workers, etc.

• Experience in development of code or scripts to provide automation and consistent deployment patterns in at least one major programming/scripting language

• Experience working in an agile software development environment, including iterative design, planning and improvement

• Understanding how to create deployment pipelines for Ruby on Rails and Node.js applications, alongside modern JavaScript frontend applications

• Experience with IaaS systems e.g. Vercel, Heroku or similar

• Experience with Linux and Bash Scripting

• Strong understanding of security best practices in use of cloud infrastructure and platforms
